Competition Team

Represent Gracie Barra
The Gracie Barra family is known as one of the most successful Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition teams around the world producing hundreds of World and Pan-Am Champions. The key to their success is a combination of excellent technical instruction, hard work and the support-staff of a family. In order for us to uphold this legacy we must hold our students to a higher set of standards than most Academies. Most students do not realize that competing in a tournament and training in the Academy are two different animals. If the proper steps are not taken to prepare our students for competition then a potential positive experience, that is designed to challenge and better our students life, can turn into a negative one.
If you are a student and would like to become part of our competition team then there are a few requirements that must be met. First you must be at least a three stripe white belt and on the Advanced Program in order to take part in any competition. You are required to consult Professor Joe and Tom at least one month prior to any tournament that you are thinking about competing in. All students are also required to send an email stating: date of tournament, belt division, weight class and age group. This will ensure that an instructor will be present at the competition to warm you up properly and coach you during the tournament. We will also supervise your pre-tournament training to make sure you are physcially and technically prepared to compete.
All competition team members are required to complete tournament specific drills and a rigorous cardiovascular regiment. Please email Professor Tom (tom@graciebarralongisland.com) for more details about our competition team requirements.
